Car & Driver Requirements

Everything you need to know to prepare yourself and your vehicle for a Just Track It event.

Driver Requirements

All drivers must meet these requirements to participate in Just Track It events. No exceptions—these rules exist to keep everyone safe.

Valid Driver's License

Valid state-issued driver's license required

Minimum Age: 16

16+ years (16-17 requires parent present and minor waiver)

Signed Waiver

Signed waiver (minor waiver if applicable)

Passengers

Age 16+ allowed for solo-approved drivers (16-18 requires parent)

Helmet Requirements

A proper helmet is your most important piece of safety equipment. We have strict requirements to ensure your helmet will protect you in the event of an incident.

  • SA2015 or newer Snell rating required — The SA (Special Application) rating indicates the helmet is designed for motorsports use with fire resistance and enhanced impact protection.
  • M-rated (motorcycle) helmets are NOT acceptable — While quality helmets, they lack the fire resistance and multi-impact protection required for track use.
  • DOT-only helmets are NOT acceptable — DOT certification alone does not meet our safety standards.
  • Helmet must be in good condition — No cracks, damage, or modifications. Interior padding must be intact.

Don't Have a Helmet?

Helmet rentals are available at events for $25. Reserve during registration to guarantee availability. Our rental helmets are SA-rated and properly maintained.

Vehicle Requirements

Your vehicle must be suitable for track activities and pass our tech inspection. While you don't need a race car, your vehicle does need to meet these minimum standards.

  • Suitable for spirited driving — Sports cars, sedans, and coupes work great. We recommend avoiding trucks and SUVs due to weight and braking characteristics.
  • Fully functional seat belts — All original belts must work properly. Harnesses allowed if installed per manufacturer specifications.
  • Good brake condition — Adequate brake pad material, functional brake system, no leaks. Fresh brake fluid recommended.
  • Adequate tire tread — No bald spots, cords showing, or excessive wear. Tires must be suitable for track speeds.
  • Secure battery — Battery must be properly secured and not able to move.
  • No fluid leaks — Oil, coolant, brake fluid, or any other fluid leaks are not permitted.
  • No excessive damage — No primered panels, missing body parts, or structural damage that could affect safety.
  • Remove loose items — Floor mats, garage door openers, toll tags, and all loose items must be removed from the interior.

Tech Inspection

Before your event, have your car inspected by a qualified mechanic. Complete the tech form and bring it to the event. On-site tech inspection will verify your vehicle meets all requirements.

Pre-Event Inspection

Have a mechanic inspect your car and sign the tech form. Focus on brakes, tires, fluids, and suspension.

Bring Signed Tech Form

Your signed tech form is required at check-in. Download from our website and bring it completed.

On-Site Verification

Our tech team will perform a visual inspection at the event to verify your vehicle meets requirements.

Car Numbers

Car numbers are applied at check-in. Use easily removable vinyl or painter's tape on both sides.

Convertibles & Open Cockpit

Special requirements apply to convertibles and open-cockpit vehicles. These rules ensure proper rollover protection for all occupants.

Vehicle Type Requirements
Convertibles with factory roll bar Acceptable as-is. Driver and passenger must fit below the plane of the windshield and roll bar with helmet on (broomstick rule).
Convertibles without roll bar Must have aftermarket rollover protection meeting SCCA PDX or NASA requirements. Alternatively, hard top must be installed.
Hardtop convertibles Acceptable with hardtop in closed position.
Corvette/Camaro/Mustang convertibles If no roll bar installed, roof must remain up during all track sessions.
Open cockpit (Atom, Exocet, Radical, etc.) Arm restraints required for driver and any passenger.

The Broomstick Rule

Place a straight edge (like a broomstick) from the top of the windshield to the top of the roll bar. With your helmet on and seated normally, your head must be below this line. If it isn't, you need additional rollover protection or a different seating position.
